PHPBB3: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of

apps

#1

I am occasionally getting the following error in phpBB 3.0.1

Scanning the phpBB forum this appears to be due to a memory limit how much memory a PHP script can use during execution. Suggestions include changing memory_limit in php.ini or adding an .htaccess folder with the line php_value memory_limit 32M

I have tried both, using the php.ini-dist and php.ini-recommended files in my php5 folder, without success (I am not sure if the php files are true php.ini files)

So, I do I increase the memory_limit in PHP? I need about 12 megs.

TIA,

Bill

The memory limit of stock PHP compiles is far greater than 12MB by default.

Create/Upload info.php and browse to it to check memory_limit.

While checking, make sure the Loaded Configuration File path is correct and that allow_url_fopen is OFF

In order to customize the php.ini for your site, you should consult the following wiki pages and decide your optimal course of action:
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Advanced_PHP_configuration
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Custom_PHP.ini
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/PHP.ini
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Installing_PHP5

Increasing the memory limit for PHP bears some caution because you don’t want to be smacked down for excess memory use of an active phpBB board. Why do you think you have to increase the memory limit for your installation? This isn’t “typical” (which sets off alarms in my head).

Oops, I missed that in the original posts. You’re right, I think the stock memory limit here at Dreamhost is 90MB.

You’re right too… if the OP followed the (unnecessary) “More general script with options” verbatim, then memory_limit would be set far below the standard Dreamhost setting. Before making that assumption I thought getting him to check phpinfo() would help ascertain which of the customisation scripts in the Wiki he has actually followed.

Hey. Just curious if you resolved this issue and if so how?

I’m also getting this problem yet my file size is smaller than the allowed limit.

Thanks - Kevin
