Php 5.4

#1

Hey guys,

I’m a current customer, I didn’t see a thread for this yet. I know, you must hate me for being that guy… but I’m wondering when PHP 5.4 will be officially available on the servers? It was just released today: http://www.php.net/archive/2012.php#id2012-03-01-1

Oooh shiny brand new! Want want want

As soon as there’s an updated version of Suhosin available for PHP 5.4, we’ll get that ball rolling.

#4

Yes, and I get a faint sniff from the tone in your email that that may mean Suhosin is never ready for php5.4

One of the developers of Arch Linux agrees:

“The upstream project has become less and less active in the past years. There are certain indicators which make Suhosin an unhealthy open source project: There is still only one main contributor, the development process is mostly closed, there is no public repository for the patch, no bug tracker, the forums are in maintenance mode for years and the latest news entry is from 2007. Of course things might be different in the background, but this is the situation which is publicly visible.”

Hence, PHP 5.4 is not coming to Dreamhost in the foreseeable future.

That’s not entirely correct. Having shell access means we can install any version of PHP we desire for any site hosted at Dreamhost.

Any update or ETA on this?

#7

Regardless of Suhosin’s compatibility, we’re working on this

I have a new SHINY PHP 5.4 app I’m deving on my PC, I logged into panel to update my site to 5.4, but there is no option. When will this be available. I’ve worked really hard on this app, I’m definitely not going to downgrade it to 5.3, and would hate to have to find somewhere else to host it.

Can it be installed for my domain?

#9

Yep! Give the domain user shell access and you can install it yourself

Thanks, I just found the Wiki. http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Installing_PHP5

DH is quite up to date with PHP. Let’s see when it will be available for us :stuck_out_tongue:

I will guess, however optimistically, before 5.3 is laid to rest in March
