Password + Redirection for index page

wordpress

Okay here’s the deal. I have this fansite which I plan to open on Xmas day.

I need to prevent people from accessing my website, as I am using Wordpress and I need to install this on the main directory.

But at the same time, I want my domain to be protected with a password so that I alone can view the site whilst it’s under construction.

Also, I was wondering if there is a way which I could redirect visitors to ‘another page’ when access is denied for them at the index page.

Am I making any sense? :stuck_out_tongue:

You can do the protection through htaccess (Panel > Goodies > Htaccess/Webdav) I suspect you can set the redirect page that people see when they can’t log in with htaccess as well, but I don’t know how to do that. A google search will probably reveal the answer.

The .htaccess protection sends a 401 Authorization Required header if you supply the wrong credentials.

You can customise the response by inserting the following line in your .htaccess:

DreamHost Promo Code: Save $50 with the promo code DREAMTEAM
