Password Protect Wordpress Blog

wordpress

#1

Hi.
I just installed Wordpress through the one-click installs features and am setting things up. I want this blog to be available to only approved users and not the general public.

On the Privacy Settings page, I only have 2 choices.

  1. I would like my site to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers
  2. would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors

In Wordpress documentation, there is a 3rd option:

  1. I would like my blog to be visible to only users I choose.

Is there a reason why this 3rd option is not available on the wordpress blog I set up through Dreamhost? This blog needs to be a private space for registered users only.

Thanks,
Nancy

How did you set this up through DreamHost? As a Custom Installation, or a Simple Installation? I use Custom Installations and can do #3.

oh. ii selected simple.

nancorbett,

You might want to re-install your WP with the Custom Installation method. Not only will you have more control, you’ll be able to add plug-ins and templates of your choosing.

This is one of the extended privacy plug-ins you can install for greater control over who sees your blog contents.
