Parallelize downloads across hostnames

#1

Hey all,
i’m trying to follow the indication by Google (google pagespeed and http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/docs/rtt.html#ParallelizeDownloads) and Yahoo (see y slow) to improve the speed of the website i run.

I need to parallelize the downloads across the hostnames, so i need to set up a new CNAME record in my domain’s DNS. The thing is that with dreamhost i can create a subdomain only with the big button “Add new domain / sub-domain” or it won’t work. Even if i mirror a subdomain, i get this: “error id: “bad_httpd_conf””

Do you guys have any suggestion on how to do that? I really need to parallelize the downloads and if i just put the files in a regular subdomain i’m going to increase the dns lookup and this is not good at all.

Thanks for the attention and sorry for my poor english,
Andrea

Spreading your includes across subdomains is actually good practice

Yep, but i’m searching the right way to do that, in fact i dont want to increase the number of dns lookup.

The problem is that my mirrored subdomain is always
"error id: “bad_httpd_conf”"
and i cant do what i whant to do :D.

Any idea?

DNS lookup is the quickest thing (and they’re cached after first find)

I use domain.com, a.domain.com, b.domain.com, etc.
Have you tried that appoach?

The bad_httpd_conf is a custom error that means the subdomains in question are not resolving internally throughout the DreamHost system. If you’ve set them up using Panel just go in and hit the edit button next to them and hit the Apply Changes under the Fully Hosted bit at the top (even if you don’t make any changes). This method will refresh the internals here at DH and should get your subbies resolving correctly.
