OpenDNS blocking dreamhost access

#1

How can we fix it?

OpenDNS is blocking the Dreamhost access , I’m unable to use OpenDNS and Dreamhost together. I’m unable to manage my clients using the http://panel.dreamhost.com or even access www.dreamhost.com

Does anybody has any idea to fix it?

Thanks.

Hi Saulob,

Laura from OpenDNS here. I just took a look and it doesn’t look like we’re blocking Dreamhost. If you want to get in touch with our support team here – http://www.opendns.com/support/ – we can take a closer look at what might be causing the issue you are seeing.

Thanks!

Hello Laura, thanks for the reply.

But it is, check your site page:

http://domain.opendns.com/dreamhost.com

It’s already tagged ‘File storage, Business Services’

Can you see that? Or I am understand it wrong? If I try to access www.dreamhost.com it will appear these tags for me.

I will contact support now.

Thanks.

Hey, it’s Laura (their blogger).

Yep, I use OpenDNS and have had no problems. My filter level is set to Custom (block Adware only). Who manages your OpenDNS settings? That person has decided that your network shouldn’t access File Storage and/or Business Services. They’re either using Custom filters, or the High Filter setting.

Thanks Laura, gonna check with them.

But, why dreamhost is classified as a ‘bad’ web site to be included on the filter?

This is bad :frowning:

But thanks.

It’s not “bad.” It’s just declared as off limits by the administrator of your network. Like firearms, social networks, and webmail. From the OpenDNS description for Highest Filter level: “Protects against all adult-related sites, illegal activity, social networking sites, video sharing sites, and general time-wasters.”

Again, ask your administrator why they’re using the highest level of filtering. That person can add dreamhost.com to the approved list no “never block.”

Thank you very much, it’s already fixed.

How did you fix it and what was the problem?

Hello.

I opened one support ticket on the OpenDNS support page.

The reply I got:

[quote]Hello -

I refreshed the cache on the domain ‘dreamhost.com’ at http://www.opendns.com/support/cache/ and it appears to be resolving at this time. Please try again to see that it is working.

It’s working fine for me now

Yup! Being categorized by OpenDNS doesn’t make you a “bad” site. We offer 57 categories of content that network administrators can choose to block or make accessible. Being classified as one doesn’t make you “good” or “bad” – it just means that we know what your website is about.

The problem still exists, especially for NEWDREAM.NET:

===
This host was blocked by OpenDNS in response to the Conficker virus, the Microsoft IE zero-day vulnerability, an equally serious vulnerability, or some other threat.

If you think this shouldn’t be blocked, please email us at malware-block@opendns.com.

Here was OpenDNS.com’s reply:

Hi Matthew,

You might want to get in touch with DreamHost as it appears someone who is sharing your server has either been compromised or is hosting malware.

See http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/ (scan http://newdream.net/~ujas/ ), http://www.virustotal.com/url-scan/report.html?id=5298ef3666dfcd88a96fde64e13ffe0a-1321054559 , and http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?id=500324468c8f3d4983a79c6f43bf1484c800353475d59e2cfdd009b8707e82da-1321058162 .

Bump!

#13

Yikes, that’s no good! I’m having our security team look into this.

#14

Any news on this? I’m still blocked by OpenDNS.

#15

We’ve cleaned up the affected site, and it looks to me as though the site’s no longer being blocked by OpenDNS.

Send me an email (using the link at the bottom of this post) with details if there are any sites still being blocked.

Still getting this for newdream.net, which I assume is where some of the info for the panel is stored:

This host was blocked by OpenDNS in response to the Conficker virus, the Microsoft IE zero-day vulnerability, an equally serious vulnerability, or some other threat.

If you think this shouldn’t be blocked, please email us at malware-block@opendns.com.

Unfortunately, as of this morning, the domain NEWDREAM.NET is still being blocked by OpenDNS.com. I have sent two emails to OpenDNS regarding this but have received no reply. I have cleared my cache and tried several browsers, but still seeing the same error.

Ideas?

I’ve contacted OpenDNS for details, but still haven’t heard back from them.

OpenDNS is being very slow about responding to emails. I called them up and they offer no telephone support. The person answering the phone did offer to pass my information to their technical department, which I suspect never happened. This makes day 3 of being unable to login to the control panel from my work location. Grrrr…

I’ve just received the following response from OpenDNS:
