Odd Top Level Domain

When I do traceroutes on some sites, I get this for some sites:

18 * be100.125.trmc0215-01.ars.mgmt.phx3.gdg (216.69.188.29) 71.708 ms !X *
19 * be100.125.trmc0215-01.ars.mgmt.phx3.gdg (216.69.188.29) 71.268 ms !X *
20 * be100.125.trmc0215-01.ars.mgmt.phx3.gdg (216.69.188.29) 72.272 ms !X *

This looks like a godaddy thing. I’m curious if godaddy is allowed to create its own TLD’s. How long has this one in particular been around?

Cheers,

Chris

.gdg does not exist. There is no requirement that the hostname specified by the reverse DNS for an IP resolve back to the IP (or even be valid); it’s merely strongly recommended that it do so.

Thanks Andrew.
