Do you have a hosting account at DreamHost or do you just have your domains registered here?

we have a hosting account. we plan on leaving DH as the registrar, we just want to have the site hosted on a different server

if it helps, when i go to the registration page i see this:

You have no domains currently registered through DreamHost on “my Account”!

but if i try to register the account, it comes up as registered. can you maybe tell me how to find out who my domain is registerd through?

sorry about this and i appreciate all the help

I’m a little confused about what you’re trying to accomplish. If you just want to change hosting and update your anmes servers to point to the new host all you need to do is log into the Panel > Domains > Registrations > Modify Whois (for each domain you want to update) and type in the new name servers at the bottom of the page.

I think that’s what you’re trying to accomplish. Let me know if that’s not right.

Edit: I updated the above linked wiki article to have more up-to-date info.

Hmm, so you’re right, it does look like the domain is not registered through DreamHost.

You should do a whois lookup for your domain. I, like many folks here, like http://dnsstuff.com/ for this.

BTW, how could you have forgotten who you registered the site through?
