New mysql DB

#1

I have created a DB c with name vlab, hostname vlabdb.gorerle.com
and username vlab. This was successful. I now create a second database called vlab_development, with the SAME hostname and the same username. I get the messages:

You’re already using “vlabdb.gorerle.com” for a database
Username “vlab” is already in taken by another DreamHost Customer!

Surely I can have multiple databases with the same DBhostname and the same DBusername? Otherwise, what is the point of having two separate fields for DBname and DBhostname?

Thanks,

Gordon

Because you are in a shared hosting environment, you must have a UNIQUE database name and user name each time you create a new database. You cannot use the same name on a different database. What you could do to stop the confusion is make like username01, 02, etc. That’s what I do for my databases.

Thanks. It does not please me, but I can live with it. To create various scripts programmatically, I believe I will have my username linked to the name of the db, so that given a dbname of
xxx, the host would be xxx_db.gorerle.com, and the username would be xxx_db.
