Need assistance

#1

I recently signed up my webhosting plan. I’m a little confused, I’m trying to get my GMAIL account to direct to mail.ryanagee.com but it not showing, what am I doing wrong?? It told me to make a CNAME for mail.ryanagee.com but i tried that it says its already there but I don’t see the url on the list. So now when I point to mail.ryanagee.com it says DNS Error - Cannot find server.

I’ll look forward to heard from you and learn more on how to customize and fix things in the future when I have this problem again. Thanks.

Regards,

Ryan

Ryan, if you host with dreamhost, all you need to do to make the GMail work is in the Domain setup, click the section that says you want GMail to host your domain, then apply the setting.

You don’t have to worry about making CNAMEs or changing your MX record.

A small note, if you have done that, it could take a few hours for it to propagate across the internet.

Use http://mail.google.com/a/ryanagee.com until propagation has taken affect.

I am hosted with Dreamhost, I have a domain with Ecom Central and I signed up using my domain with my web hosting provider (dreamhost) and in that sign up, it says want to use Google Apps (free).

So you saying if I want GMail to host my http://mail.ryanagee.com domain???

Ryan

No. You don’t need to host via Google for GMail to work.

So this option is the one I suppose to pick: Use Gmail for all email @yourdomain.com, accessible via http://mail.yourdomain.com, free!?? Found this at Domain:: Manage Domains… Is this you’re talking about?

Just wanna double check.

It depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. You can’t get a “GMail account to direct to mail.ryanagee.com”.

You can either forward mail from a pre-existing GMail account into your new DreamHost Mail account, or you can use GMail as your primary domain mail service. If you can comment on what your end goal is then someone here will be able to offer some step by step instructions and you’ll be up and running in no time.

Hello, I’m Ryan and I recently signed up for this web hosting service, at the sign up, I selected Google Apps cause its free. I have recently established my webmail (webmaster@ryanagee.com) with Google Apps and I am having problems getting http://mail.ryanagee.com to point to http://mail.google.com/a/ryanagee.com or show my login page for Google Mail. What are the steps should I take? I would appreciate the steps by steps given via email instead of wiki. I look forward to hear from you soon.

Hey there Ryan,

No problem! Since you’ve already set everything up, the next few steps
are pretty easy.

Just log into your panel and go to Domains / Manage Domains, here:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=domain.manage&

Then, click the “Edit” button in the “Web Hosting” column and, on the
page that loads, scroll down to the option to enable Gmail. This will
allow Google to take over all the mail management for you (and
automatically change all the settings on our end to enable this!)

Then, click “Change these fully hosted settings now!”

Once the DNS changes have had a few hours to finish resolving, you should
be all set!

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with!

Thanks!
