.name domain name

#1

Hi,
I am wanting to set up a little site for my own use and wanted to make sure that if I get a domain name with a .name suffix that I can use it on Dreamhost. My question basically is, can hosting companies host domain names that have the suffixes which they don’t themselves register?

Thanks.

Sure! Hosting and registration are two different functions, and it is common for one to register a name in one place and have that name hosted at another.

All you have to do is place the proper nameservers into the records at the registrar. For a site hosted at Dreamhost, just list the nameservers as ns1.dreamhost.com, ns2.dreamhost.com, and ns3.dreamhost.com.

Ok, thanks. I thought that was right but wanted to make sure!
