MySQL User Password Characters

I am trying to reset a MySQL user password and am wondering if there are some rules about characters that are not being expressed.

The password I want has a less than and greater than sign in it and it seems as it the password field is stripping out anything that looks like an HTML tag. Is that true?

That doesn’t surprise me. In UNIX the less than/greater than characters redirect input and output.

Thanks for the reply. I found out that the password still does work with the less/greater than signs. The web panel page that displays the current password for the user does not escape the characters, but they are still there in the HTML source.

Nice to know. As I look into it, it’s looking like there’s a way to escape non-standard characters in PHP so they’re accepted.
