Mysql slow?

#1

I was looking for a new host and a friend pointed me to Dream host. DH has really good plans shell access, unlimited domains, …, but I see on this forums complains about mysql data base, my sites will have mostly be a couple of forums and there is no point in hosting forums if the daba base is slow.

based on your experience with DH do you think i should buy a hosting plan here?

I’ve been with DH for just over a year now, and my expirence has been great. I have a couple of domains here, many of which are running forums or blogs, and they fast and reliable. There’s been a few times here and there when things will go out for a few min, but then they’re back up. There was a day some weeks back now when my DBs were slow for a couple of hours, but it’s definatly not the norm for me.

Just my little ole’ opinion.

There’s been a lot of problems with the mysql servers lately. They’re either overloaded or have technical problems because they grind to a halt a lot lately.

I don’t know if this is just temporary or not because DreamHost will not respond to the complaints. I suggest you go elsewhere if you have mysql-intensive sites and if you need a host right now. If you have time, sign up with dreamhost and hope that they fix their mysql issues.

I never have a problem visiting this forum. Sometimes there are brief outages that affect serving ads to another of my sites. By the time I get worried it’s back up - just a few minutes. It seems to happen to other people too.

DH recently had a big promotion to sign up new customers. It might be due to that - lots of new people doing things they don’t fully understand. Hard to say.

Does this happen to only Managed Web Server users, or does it also affect Dedicated Servers?

Are there other hosting sites you recommend? I want to compare prices first before I truly sign up here. My sister wants me to host it on a free server, but I know that many of the free server sites will not allow Adult Web Hosting (Back to this again, hun?).

they have a 97 day guarantee so you can always bail in that time if you find something better. there is no perfect hosting company, but in general I have been happy with DH.

currently my experience with DH mysql server is slightly below satisfactory…

Lately it has been getting better. The people complaining seems to have increased though - not sure if that is proportional to anything under DH’s control or maybe it’s just because the total customer base has increased and the % of complainers has stayed about the same

My experience so far has been good, and I have been on this service for around five-six days now.

My questions were answered in a reasonable time, one of them being in a day and a half.
So far, every question I have made was answered in around 1-2 hours.
They explain everything clearly so I do not have to frustrate at what they ar saying.

MySQL? It has been really doing well for me ever since I signed up. No timeouts, no errors or anything.

Well, I’ve been on DH for 12 Hours now.
I’ve sent 3 people to look at a logo on my coming soon page and all three tell me they get no response from server then 5 mins later its up then down again.
I cant get into panel.dreamhost.com
and I cant tell them how VERY unimpressed I am cuz you need to get into panel to contact support. How do you tell them panel is broken?
If things dont improve soon I’ll be redeaming that 97 day guarranty.
I wish I had read these forums before signing on. This does not seem to be an isolated incident, DH does not seem to acknowledge the issue and its been going on for some time now.

Folks if you can’t reach your sites you might want to check their alternate status page here. <-- which is off their network and always available.

It’s not updated with the little hiccups some of us are seeing, but it explains the big hiccup I had today where my sites were not reachable.

Cheers,
Peter

You call that an explanation?!? They put that up 1 hour and 30 minutes ago and haven’t changed a word since. Will be fixed “as soon as possible” is a completely meaningless answer and the only help that page gives is to tell users that it’s not a problem with their computer ISP. Gee, thanks.

I’m host shopping now. It will be a royal PITA to move away from Dreamhost but I may have no other choice.
