Mysql question

#1

I’m trying to set up a mysql database to use with moveabletype.

I set up a database, and right off I had to name it. So I named it rnmt. I then created a user name and password. Then I had to make a hostname, so I named it mysql.ryannet.org.

My question is, what is the difference between rnmt and mysql.ryannet.org? What name is used for what? Which one is the host name? I’m very confused, obviously.

Thanks.

mysql.ryannet.org is the name of your hostname.

rnmt is the name of your database.

What does this software ask for in the configuration files?

Thanks wil.

Here’s what I have to configure, and how I configured it.

CGIPath http://www.ryannet.org/mt/
ObjectDriver DBI::mysql
Database rnmt
DBUser ryannet
DBHost www.mysql.ryannet.org

DBUmask 0022
HTMLUmask 0022
UploadUmask 0022
DirUmask 0022

Supposedly, if your database is on the same server as your site, you shouldn’t have to put the hostname, you can just use the database name. But I’ve also heard it’s best to connect through your hostname, even if just the database name works, so who knows.

Anyway, when I try to load it it gives me this:

Loading initial data into system…

An error occurred while loading data:

Connection error: Unknown MySQL Server Host ‘www.mysql.ryannet.org’ (2)

I have no idea if I have something wrong, or if it takes a while for the database to start working, since I just named the server about 15 minutes ago.

Is this how the example is given? They may want something like /home/username/ryannet.org/mt/ – that would be my guess.
ObjectDriver DBI::mysql
Database rnmt
DBUser ryannet
These look right
DBHost www.mysql.ryannet.org
This should be just ‘mysql.ryannet.org’.

Yep, that was the example they give you.

Anyway, I changed the line to ‘mysql.ryannet.org’ and it worked. Thanks so much will.

To any one reading this something along the lines of the original example should be used as the cgipath for MT – never a filesystem path.

This is prolly the 2nd most common set-up mistake seen on the MT Board.
