MySQL creation question

#1

Is the MySQL DB created on the same server as my host system or a different one?

I ask because while I can’t access my newly created DB via the hostname, I also can’t access it locally:

balrog:~> mysql -Dapolloni_mt
ERROR 2002: Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock’ (2)

It’s been about 12 hours since I created the DB and still no joy connecting to it…

Does it usually take this long?

Different server. Try:
mysql -hmysqlhostname.example.com -uusername -p database

(where ‘mysqlhostname’ is the mysql hostname you created when you setup the database and ‘database’ is the database’s name).

OK then. I suppose that I need to wait until the host name propegates (which at this point seems to take over 12 hours.)

I would suggest that the documentation be updated so that instead of just: [ Add New Database ] (new dbs take about an hour to activate)
You also note that the host propegations take a day or so.

Thanks for your help.
