Hello folks,

I’m curious if within dreamhost I can access my databases from other hosts (specifically localhost). This way I can have local applications accessing my db’s. Any way to do this? Thanks!

You can open up access to any IP or IP range, from the web panel:

https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=goodies.mysql

Just edit the user, make the change at the bottom of the page, and submit. A few hours later, it’ll take effect.

Note that you can’t open it up to ‘localhost’, since EVERYONE is localhost (in the words of a great robed man, “from a certain point of view”).

In any case, you’ll actually have to specify an IP address or range of IPs to open up. If you don’t know what to put here, you’ll probably have to contact your ISP and see what IPs you’re likely be be connecting from.
