Move wordpress from folder to root

wordpress

Hi,
I can’t seem to find the right answer to this question…
Would someone please give me instructions on how to move my wordpress site from www.mydomain.com/blog to www.mydomain.com?

Thanks.

I will SO be watching this post to see if you get an answer…

Since you already have wordpress working in a sub-folder you may as well go this route

https://discussion.dreamhost.com/thread-131591.html

just follow the instructions and you should be fine.

Thanks Ryo-ohki.
But let me just clarify…so, with this set up if I want to remove wordpress from root later I can just remove the altered index.php and .htaccess and then head back to the settings and change the address back to the folder? If so, that’s the best solution yet.

I’ll give it a try - thanks.

That is correct

That actually didn’t work out for me.

First of all, I didn’t see a .htaccess file, even when I set to “show hidden files” - but I did made the changes on index.php file but now when I log in I get this message:

Not Found

The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

However, I do see the wp-login.php file, so I don’t know what the problem is now. I’m stuck.

Thanks.

if the .htaccess file was not generated for you, i did post one on that other thread (the stuff in the code box). it would be fine if you used what i put there. just copy it and paste it into a text file and name the file .htaccess and upload it to the directory.

Ryo-ohki, thanks again for all your help.

Evidently, there’s many solutions for each problem. And Ryo-oki’s solution definitely helped me halfway which also led me to this site:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/the-requested-url-login-was-not-found-on-this-server-1

But then that didn’t work either, and somehow led me to this site:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/howto-solve-the-requested-url-wp-loginphp-was-not-found-on-this-server

And that one pretty much did it. Thanks for getting me started Ryo-ohki.
