Mbox to maildir

#1

I’m in the process of moving my site over to DH. Right now the only thing standing in my way is moving over my users old e-mail from my previous host. They were also using Squirrelmail, but in mbox format.

I did some research and found that the most common way to convert from mbox to maildir was to use something like mb2md.pl (http://batleth.sapienti-sat.org/projects/mb2md/). Unfortunately my old host doesn’t allow shell access of any kind.

So I have been able to download the old mail files via FTP, but I’m pretty much stuck there. I contacted DH support offering to pay them for the conversion but they weren’t able to help and pointed me to these forums.

As for my knowledge in running perl scripts etc. - well I’m not a complete moron but I’m more of a pixel-jockey than command line king. So any help would be appreciated.

Anyone at all have any experience with this? Could you even point me in a good direction elsewhere to look for help? I’d really appreciate it.

Have you just tried uploading the old files to Dreamhost and running that perl script on them?

mb2md is actually really simple. I’ve used it with great results in the past and will be using it again soon to migrate ~700 mboxes on an old mail system at work to a new system using Maildir.

I’ve posted a walk-through to the DH wiki:
