Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded... when accessing email



After 18 months of no issues I’m getting the following error when my email client tries to retrieve email messages:

“The server for account “[my account]” returned the error “Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded (mail_max_userip_connections).” Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?”

What the heck? We are a small company with just two email users. I hadn’t changed passwords prior to this. This has been going on for several days.
