Internal Server Error after recovering from hacks

I recently followed all the DH instructions to recover from a hack. I’ve reinstalled a completely fresh version of Wordpress, with only the two themes that come with the basic install. Now, every time I go to do anything on the site, I get an Internal Server Error the first time (see below) the first time, after which Wordpress updates the post or does whatever it was I asked. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mydomain and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Difficult to say unless you tell us what the server error log notes.

It’s been years since I had to look at a log. I’ve forgotten where to find the server error log.

um, in the directory titled ‘logs’?

For some reason, I didn’t see that directory. I’ve been trying to secure my sites, though, and moved each site to a newly created user. Although I’m not sure why, that seems to have fixed the problem. If it reoccurs, it will be easier for me to find the logs directory on this smaller site, I think. Thanks for your help.
