Installing Tidy php extension

#1

Hello all,

I have a 3rd party party application that requires Tidy to be installed on my server.
(I’m running php 5.3 on a virtual server.)

It’s my understanding that tidy comes bundled with php 5, but it “needs to be installed using the --with-tidy configure option.” ~http://php.net/manual/en/tidy.installation.php

I assume this means that I need to add ‘–with-tidy’ somewhere in php.ini. I don’t know how to do that. I do have some experience with using shell, so I’m not a complete novice, but if someone can walk me through the commands to access the file, open it in a text editor and add ‘–with-tidy,’ I would be much obliged.

If you think that’s a bad idea (or if configuration is much more involved than that), well, let me know that too. I’m exploring other options.

If you’re using PHP 5.3, the tidy extension is already compiled and available in the system extension directory. It’s just not loaded by default.

See http://wiki.dreamhost.com/PHP.ini#PHP_5.3 for instructions on creating a php.ini file. The line you need is simply:extension=tidy.so
