Installing SquirrelMail

apps

#1

I’m thinking of doing my own install of SquirrelMail. I’ve read some of the documentation at SquirrelMail, but I’m unsure about the DH end of it.

Have any of you out there done this yourself? What all is involved?

How large of an install is it?

Do I have to compile my own version of PHP to make it work?

I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and get dirty, but I have to admit, I’m not exactly sure where to begin.

I don’t think you will have to build your own PHP. It’s not a difficult install… pretty much, just unpack the tarball and run the configure script – then rename the directory you unpacked to wherever you want it to be.

The documentation online (and in the tarball itself) is pretty clear.

Thanks for the response. I was reading the install docs last night and it doesn’t seem so bad.

If I do the install, is it possible to transfer mail currently in folders or do I have to start with a clean slate?

Squirrelmail is an IMAP client, so assuming you set things up correctly (the Courier IMAP defaults should do it), you will see all of your folders, just as you would with any IMAP client. You may need to “subscribe” to the appropriate folders though.
