Installing deb packages

#1

Hi,

I’m fairly new to installing on linux, and was wondering if it’s possible to install .deb packages on a shared hosting account?

I gave it a quick go using ‘dpkg -i’ but got an error saying I wasn’t a superuser. As I understand from the wiki I can’t use sudo to allow the install either. Does anybody know of a way I can do it?

Cheers

You’ll have to download the source code and compile it manually.

Hello Scott.

I just ran into this problem myself.
How can I download the source code and compile?

I am trying to install Google´s PageSpeed Module

I’m not sure that you can build the Apache version of PageSpeed from source. If you have a VPS you can use Nginx as you web server instead of Apache. Then you can build from source following the instructions at https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/module/build_ngx_pagespeed_from_source
