Install WordPress with existing directories on site

OK, so I know that my main directory has to be empty to take advantage of the one click install, BUT, I have directories in existence on my site that I can’t really move/delete.

Is it going to mess everything up if I do a manual install of wordpress in the main directory without deleting/moving those folders?

You can install Wordpress manually, and probably not run into conflicts, but when one does this you must spend a few minutes examining what will happan and whether any folders or files will be over written.

There’s another way too. You can install Wordpress in its own folder, and copy Wordpress’ index and .htaaccess back up to the root. This isn’t quite the exact Wordpress codex article for your situation, it covers a similar situation: https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
