About as useful as:
[ b] text [ /b] = Surrounds the given text with b tags.
I could (should?) have googled 'markup pre' to learn what this tag does, since it is the only one with an obtuse definition. This faq entry might be more helpful to noobs at any level if it was something like:
[pre] text [ /pre] = Preserves leading white space. Displays text in monospace font.
