Indenting in this forum

#1

How do I indent lines in this forum? It would be handy when posting problems with scripts.

I put five spaces before this line.

This post shows it is possible.

I could not find an answer in the faq or wiki.

Regards,
Rudy

Just put it between pre & /pre tags. Here’s a list of tags & code that will work here.

You can use the “pre” formatting codes like this:

[pre] non indented line Indented line and another Non-indeted line[/pre]
Also described in the FAQ for the Forum software. :wink:

–rlparker

Edit:-Strange…it “previewed” with the “inner” pre tags showing, but now they are suppressed…anyway, as Seiler said while I was typing, check the FAQ :wink:

[code]#!/bin/sh

$reader = me;
$dunce = me;
if($reader == $dunce)
then
{
echo "Doh! ";
echo “I saw that in the faq.\n”;
echo “I didn’t understand what it did.\n”;
echo “Thanks!”;
}
exit 0;
[/code]

[pew]reader = me;
dunce = me;
if($reader == $dunce)
then
{
echo "Doh! ";
echo “I saw that in the faq.\n”;
echo “I didn’t understand what it did.\n”;
echo “Thanks!”;
}
exit 0;[/pre]

There is a syntax error in the posted script. reader != $reader

And, looking at the faq again:

[pre] text [ /pre] = Surrounds the given text with pre tags.About as useful as:

[ b] text [ /b] = Surrounds the given text with b tags.I could (should?) have googled ‘markup pre’ to learn what this tag does, since it is the only one with an obtuse definition. This faq entry might be more helpful to noobs at any level if it was something like:

[pre] text [ /pre] = Preserves leading white space. Displays text in monospace font.Again, thanks for the answer.
