IMAP email sync problems

#1

Hi,
I’m having a problem with my email still. I posted this message orignally about a month ago. I’ve received no response.

Here’s my problem:

I have my Thunderbird client setup as imap to my mail server. Under Server Settings of the properties page I have the following settings checked off:

  • “Check for new messages”
  • "Check for new Messages every XXXX "
  • “Automatically download new messages”
  • “Leave message on server”
    ** “Until I delete them”

What I just noticed was that my client reports I have 50 or so odd messages. When I login via webmail I get a report of over 900 messages. As far as I can tell I have everything setup correctly to have my client synchronize with the server, but apparently that is not correct. I’ve clean out all my trash folders in my client and nothing has changed. Can anybody shed any light on this?

Are you sure you’re using IMAP?

The behavior you’re describing and the Thunderbird options you’ve mentioned sounds exactly like what you’d expect from a POP3 connection. Take a look at Account Properties -> Server Settings and double check what it lists as the “Server Type”. It should read “IMAP Mail Server”, but from what you’ve just described, I’m betting it does not.

Yes I am positive. I’ve been using IMAP for over 10 years now. But to settle your curiosity, it is set to IMAP not POP3
