I'm a beginner and I'm STUMPED

#1

I recently registered a domain, signed up for hosting, changed the DNS servers on my registrar, got my login stuff for FTP and it still won’t let me log in on any of the FTP programs (I’ve tried WS FTP, Cute FTP and Smart FTP).

This is the message that I get:

Connecting to (egon.dreamhost.com).
Connected to (egon.dreamhost.com) -> IP: 216.240.131.21 PORT: 21.
Socket connected waiting for login sequence.
220 ProFTPD 1.2.0pre10 Server (DreamHost FTP) [egon.dreamhost.com]
USER angflowr
331 Password required for angflowr.
PASS (hidden)
Connection closed.

It looks as though it’s recognizing my username but it just craps out on me when it tries to read my password (and I know I’m doing the password correctly…)

Do I need to wait longer in order for my domain to be transferred (It’s been 48 hours)? Or what else could it be?

Actually the problem was on our side here; somehow your home directory hadn’t gotten created yet.

This is a pretty good example of a question that might have been answered more quickly by tech support. In any event:

jazz% ftp egon
Connected to egon.dreamhost.com.
220 ProFTPD 1.2.0pre10 Server (DreamHost FTP) [egon.dreamhost.com]
Name (egon:william): angflowr

Password:
230 User angflowr logged in.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp> ls

All worky now!
