I want to move from Geocities to Dreamhost

#1

Hi. I currently have a website with Yahoo Geocities. It’s the Geocities Pro package. I want to change it to Dreamhost. But I want the same domain name. What do I need to do?

Do I just transfer the domain? All this stuff about nameservers and registrars confuses me.

If I do just transfer the domain, will I still be paying Yahoo Geocities for their service? Do I have to cancel my service with them?

If I need to clarify any questions, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

My site is

http://www.likethefruit.com

if anyone needs to look it up and tell me what I need to do.

Okay, I think I am understanding some things after reading up a bit.

Now, I just need to know how I change my Geocities nameserver.

A lookup of the whois shows that likethefruit.com is registered via MelbourneIT.com. So unless this domain name is part of Yahoo’s package (which I don’t think so), you should be able to modify your server information by logging in to MelbourneIT. You don’t need to pay Yahoo anymore after moving over to DreamHost; but I’ll wait till the transfer is well complete before cancelling your service with them.
