I have a question

I have purchased some templates and uploaded them using Ipswitch WS_FTP LE … I just wanted to view the templates before changing the graphics.

I noticed that when I close the FTP program I can no longer view my web page or as it is right now a parent directory. But as soon as I open up the FTP prog again I’m able to view it.

Does anyone know what I did wrong? I’m learning about this and I thought this was the best way pay for a space and then go for it…lol Thanks in advance for any information or advice anyone might have!

G’day Sapphire,

Call old me dumb, but I cannot quite follow your post. Perhaps you would not mind describing the problem(s) you are experiencing again, in more detail, so others can try and help you.

What format do your templates come in? HTML?

What error message do you get when the uploaded web pages fail to display in your web browser?

“When I open up the FTP program again I am able to view it” - do you mean when the FTP program is running, you can see a listing of web pages/files, or do you mean when the FTP program is running, your web pages suddenly all load properly in the web browser (and the web pages will not load in the browser when the FTP program is closed)?

Marsbar thank you for your reply… thankfully pheww I figured out my problem. LOL I’m the young and dumb I can hardly explain what my problem is.

I do have another question though, and yes my template is html with flash.

So I uploaded all the pages just to see what it looked like before I make some changes … and I noticed that it loads into a parent directory where it lists the html pages separately. I know I need to link these pages somehow and I was wondering if you could tell me how?

Please again let me know if I need to be more specific.

Thank you!

You are most welcome, Sapphire.

Create a home/starting page for your site, and name it index.html

Upload index.html to your root web directory (i.e. /yourdomainname). When you next direct your browser to your domain, you should only see the home page, and not a listing of all your files/directories.

The URL for your pages:
if you have put every file in the root, then the URL for each page will look something like this: http://www.yourdomainname/filename.ext
e.g. http://www.sapphire.org/about.html

If you have created sub-directories and placed files in them, the URL for each file will look something like this:
e.g. http://www.sapphire.org/fun/quiz.html
