.htaccess & .htpasswd?

#1

Hi there,
I’ve been trying to configure .htaccess & .htpasswd to protect one of my directories, but it doesn’t seem to work. Someone suggested that possibly my host requires a different spelling of the .htpasswd file (.htpaswrd or something like that). Can someone give me some direction here? I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Laura

Why don’t you use the .htaccess feature provided in your DreamHost web panel? Access your web panel and click on the CGI tab. There you will find a .htaccess sub-tab. From there you should be able to set up access priviledges for any folder on your site.

Thanks. I didn’t realize that existed in my control panel. I’m pretty new to DH2 (I was on DH1 until about a week-and-a-half ago).

Thanks. I’ll do that!

No problem. Glad I could help! It is definitily worth taking a look around the new Web Panel interface. It’s actually quite advanced and you can actually manage a lot from there!
