How to transfer URL hosting from godaddy?

#1

Hello – Could someone tell me precisely how to do this? DreamHost speaks of a “c-panel” and I have no idea what that is or how I would identify one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m finding the DreamHost interface to be very intimidating.

Thanks

do you have a website already on godaddy? or is it just parked

Hi – Thanks for the response. It’s just parked at godaddy. No website. I don’t want to switch over the registration (which would cost an additional $10), just the hosting so I can build the site properly via wordpress hosted by DreamHost.

Finding this process horribly complex. Why isn’t it straightforward? (Or, at least, straightforward-seeming?)

In any event, thanks again for the response–and for any guidance you can offer.

If you don’t wish to transfer the registration all you need to do to make the domain work on dreamhost is login at godaddy and change the nameservers for the domain to ns1.dreamhost.com, ns2.dreamhost.com, ns3.dreamhost.com. Give that change some time to propagate across the internet (usually 12-24 hours, but could be up to 72 hours for every nameserver worldwide), then add the domain via the panel and build your site. Nothing really complicated about it.

Also while transfering the domain does cost and addition $10.00 it also extends the registration by a year, so it’s really not a loss. That said, if I was in your place I would simply set the nameservers as described and not transfer the registration. There are advantages to having your registration elsewhere.
