How to tell how often a file is being downloaded

#1

Hi all.
I’m a nOOb and am making a file available for download on my site (www.darkedgedesign.com) and want to know how can I track it’s downloads?
I’m sorry if this is very easy, but I have no idea.

Thanks,
Ray

Fully hosted domains will have a log file associated for requests and errors.

The log file for requests is called access.log

Simple count how many times you see a log entry for the file.

The log file is rolled over daily and you can configure how many days of log files are kept.

Just in case if you are lost, you can have a free website statistics in DH via DH panel --> Status --> Site Statistics You will need to create a new user for it.

Note: the user has access only to the site statistics. It is totally separate from other users.

I might mention here that I’ve been using a wonderful website stat program and it is free. It’s at http://statcounter.com I use it on the pages of the website and I use a visible counter on the main page of http://vernsdidj.com It shows who is there, how long, if unique visits, where they came from in the world, entry page, exit page, what OS they are using, the monitor size, etc etc etc. LOTS of statics for free. Really worth mentioning. PS I get no cash or perks for referring you there, just good will passing on a great little freebie for you.

Cheers!
