How do you rename a folder in FTP

Hi

I’m trying to rename my plugins folder to plugins.hold while in FTP and don’t know how to do so. Any help would be very much appreciated.

That’s going to depend on the interface, What ftp client are you using?

Typically you can find rename in the context sensitive menu found by right-clicking the object (file or folder).

First let me say that I’m new to all of this. As far as I know I don’t have one which is why I’m trying to rename my plugins folder on the file manager provided on my host’s (Dreamhost) control panel.

I don’t use dreamhosts webftp client. ftp in general is not secure and should not be used, as such all my “users” have “disallow ftp” checked. As a result of that, it’s not easy for me to just go look in their interface and check for you.

It would be best if you downloaded an ftp client and set it to use SFTP as the protocol. Popular with beginners is filezilla, another good one is FireFTP which is actually a browser plugin. WinSCP is often popular for the experienced but likely harder for beginners.

Thank you so much for your help
