Host Not Found::

Our hosted mail forwarding was working fine a week or so ago, and now it is unhappy. I didn’t see anything of note last time I checked the status page, and this has been going on for more than a week now.

When I send mail to one of our email accounts, e.g. sec* from my home account (which works fine sending everywhere else), I get the following (Note, all asterisks are post-edits to prevent bots):

Reporting-MTA: dns;
X-Postfix-Queue-ID: F18D217BEF88
X-Postfix-Sender: rfc822; b*@zimmer*.net
Arrival-Date: Thu, 14 Apr 2016 11:36:49 -0700 (PDT)

Final-Recipient: rfc822; sec*
Original-Recipient: rfc822;sec*
Action: failed
Status: 5.4.4
Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; Host or domain name not found. Name service error
for type=A: Host not found

Any advice is appreciated. I searched the forum for info about this error, but the only conversation seemed to be “yea, that mx entry is just fine.”

Something very odd has happened. Email for your domain has somehow ended up pointed to a mail cluster that was shut down in 2009.

This is a little more involved than I can handle in the discussion forum. Please contact DreamHost Support; they’ll get this straightened out.
