Homie.mail.dreamhost.com refusing to connect

My POP3 clients have suddenly started failing to connect to my dreamhost mail server. All morning. Chat support failed to resolve the problem. Ticket opened 2 1/2 hours ago, with no response at all.

Webmail works, but I was horrified to learn that hundreds of legit messages have been derailed as “spam”, for who knows how many months! Not so amusingly, even the confirmation email for this Dreamhost Community was classified as spam!!!

All my clients are calling me to say the same thing: “mail does not work and the server keeps asking for the password”.

Six hours from my first customer call … the problem still present … what happen?

…And then I checked the Email Migration article at https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001939191-Email-migration, which suggests switching from the account-specific server domain, home.mail.dreamhost.com, to the service-generic domain name, pop.dreamhost.com. My client connects to that server, but refuses to authenticate.

Yes, the problem is ongoing. Attempting to use POP3 mode to homie.mail.dreamhost.com port 995 SSL/TLS results in “Failed to connect to server”.

If I use an insecure mode, e.g. mail.mydomainname port 110, it works.

I started out with ticket 8245344, followed up with ticket 8246800.
