Help with Redirecting and Fully Hosted

#1

I am fairly new to having my own domain (about a year) and signed up for the Let’s Encrypt security certificate.

I’d like for users who enter my http://mikepolinske.info to automatically go to the https://mikepolinske.info.

I do have a Wordpress blog at mikepolinske.info/blog

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Create a .htaccess file in your website’s main directory. All the .htaccess file needs is:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://mikepolinske.info/$1 [R,L]

Anyone going to anything via http will be switched over to https.

Should I remove the .htaccess file in my blog directory? Or does Wordpress need that? That file contains:

BEGIN WordPress

RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /blog/ RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /blog/index.php [L]

END WordPress

Thanks

WordPress needs that. That’s how it sets up permalinks.

I’m really starting to regret signing up for the Let’s Encrypt. Now it seems my blog up-time is very sporadic.

I get emails all the time from Jetpack Monitor.

I wonder if there is an easy way to roll back and just stick with HTTP. I wish Dreamiest would have emphasized it was a beta.

@mikepolinske:

If you need help, please create a new single post, so that we can help you in that post. It’s much easier to track the advice we have given you and not repeat things.

Go here:

https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=domain.secure&

and click “Remove”. And then be patient. It might take a few hours (or a few days, depending on how busy they are) to resolve.

SSl Certificate for shared hosting on the main domain through Dreamhost is $15.00 a year. And easy. All I did was purchase it.

Thank you metoo.

I have a support ticket created with Dreamhost so hopefully they’ll respond.
