Help with Promo Codes

#1

In 14 days I plan to move my domain over to DreamHost (From Vizaweb) and I was wondering about the promo codes I keep seeing.

Can tell one tell me if any of these are real, or tell me any other codes that they know to be real?

I can’t speak for the others, but…

http://www.webhostanalysis.com/dreamhostpromo.php

is my site (as is the promo code) and it most definitely is real. It provides a $50 discount on all DreamHost shared hosting plans, including monthly plans. I would guess that the other promo codes are real also.

If you need to check whether a particular promo code is still active, you can do this during the sign-up process. Simply enter the promo code (during step 5 of the sign-up process) and click the ‘Update’ button to see the discount that the particular promo code offers.

All those site listed are real, there are many DH promo sites around on the net offering different discounts. Be wary of some codes appearing to offer discounts of a high value, the discounts specified don’t always apply to every plan type.

I doubt anyone is making a living from it (although I guess it is possible), but it definitely helps pay for hosting costs.

I have to know, did you actually go to the trouble of creating this promo code and did the Web Panel accept it?

Er…no. It was an attempt at sarcasm - promo codes are a little controversial in this forum.

What do you mean funny? I mean funny like I’m a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I’m here to amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?

Promo codes are just for the first year. If you are not sure of a promo code then try it during signup.

It’s always fun to watch all the promo code crabs crawl out from under their rocks when a posting with “promo” in the heading shows up

Simon, It was funny by the fact that I laughed when I read it. you said it was supposed to be scarsam, I interperted it as such. I didn’t mean to sound like I was attacking or laughing at you. sorry for the confusion.

I think Simon may be a fan of the movie Goodfellas

Mark is right. The clown quote comes from Goodfellas, and it was meant as a humorous retort to your comment. My apologies. If you haven’t seen the film, I strongly recommend it!

“Without any discounts, it’s not much of a promo code, is it?!”

Not my words, these are actually coming from the control panel when I tried to create one with $0 discount. Hope I haven’t broken anything.

None of the promo codes seem to work (ones in your signatures and stuff) or on any other sites. And when I try to “update” the promo code, it takes 5-7 minutes until it tells me it’s not valid. Anyone know whats up?

It would appear that the referral/promo code system is having some severe problems at the moment. Even accessing the Rewards section of the Web admin panel is very slow (and frequently times out).

I have contacted DreamHost a couple of times regarding this issue and so far the only reply has been that there are no known issues, but the issue will be escalated for further investigation.

Frankly, I find this issue to be frustrating. What is the point of promoting the promo-codes and referring customers to DreamHost if this is what they find when they arrive? Such issues are hardly likely to inspire confidence in potential customers.
