Has anyone upgraded Gallery1 to Gallery2 using one-click install? I don’t want to be the guinea pig.
I have. Essentially, when you upgrade, Gallery will copy all of your images into a new folder. I went through the trouble of backing up everything but it seems almost unnecessary since you don’t actually write over your old installation.
Install Gallery2 first in a new directory and make sure it is working.
Then follow these directions: http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery1:Upgrading
or, if you are embedding it in a cms: http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery1:Embedding
I didn’t know what would happen if I tried just running the one-click install overtop of my existing install, so I followed the instructions here: http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:migration through step 8. I had some issues with running the config wizard after renaming the gallery directory, though, and on the advice of some folks at the Gallery support forum, I manually edited the config file to update the paths.
Then I did the one-click install of Gallery 2 and imported everything. No problems that weren’t due to adjusting to the new interface.
