Form mail e-mail syntax validation

I know that the form mail at comes with some kind of syntax validation. However, would it be possible to make it a bit stricter?

Now, it asks for an “@” sign and something after it. But then an INVALID e-mail address such as “webmaster@dreamhost” (without the dot, not to say the com) would pass through. Is it possible to factor in the dot (".") and at least 2 characters after that? Is there anyway I can do it myself? Thanks. - What do you think?

Wouldn’t be easier to simply write your own form handler? You’ll be able to tailor it to your specific needs.
