I have a php script that needs to kick off another script that will take a very long time, but the script that kicks it off needs to return promptly. I figured this would be a good place to use pcntl_fork(). However, whenever I try to use it I get “fatal error: call to undefined function”. So I’m guessing pcntl_fork() isn’t enabled on the dreamhost php installs. Is there a way around this, or a better method other than fork. I tried something like:
exec( ‘thescript.php > /dev/null &’ );
but that seems to result in some weird behavior.
