Flash Video

I’m looking into Flash video and am wonding what are the best ways to do it? I really like what Dreamhost has here: http://blog.dreamhost.com/2005/12/22/a-hammer-for-chocolate

Anyone know how this was made?

Well, I’m assuming it took more than one program to make that. First you needed to take the video, they may have used a digital camera so it may not have needed to be converted to another format. Then you need a flash program and to incorporate the video file into it. You can use different ones out there, the most popular (and expensive) being Flash MX. I don’t know if Fireworks would do it but probably…I’ve just never even glanced at Fireworks so I can’t tell you a thing about it. You can go the easy way and cheat using something like Swish (not to be confused with SwishMAX which, although made by the same company, is VERY CONFUSING). Doesn’t take long to get the hang of swish, you can be making stuff in under an hour with it. I hope you found this post useful  and good luck.

They made that using flash, but Fireworks is a graphics editing system. You can pick up Macromedia Flash on it’s own, or with the Macromedia sweet.

You need to start wth digital video on your computer. That can be avi’s or quick times files… many of the major formats are supported. Then you let flash take over. You import te video file, Flash converts and compresses it and hepls you get things set up. So it doesn’t necessarly require two programs. - for instance my little digital camera also will take short vidoes, and it’s stored on the flash card as avi files, flash will take thoes and help you stream them.

Flash MX will not do video. IIRC, you need at least Flash MX 2004.

It’s all the same. People were making those kinds of flash videos longer than 2 years ago I’m sure. It may not be as simple to do with a previous version but you could still do it. I don’t put Program [year/version/etc] in posts but I do mean the current versions of them.

Flash Video (FLV) was introduced with Flash MX 2004. Previously it was not supported within Flash. Before that, other methods have been used to integrate Flash with video.

I don’t put Program [year/version/etc] in posts but I do mean the current versions of them.

In your initial post, you stated:

You did refer to a program version, so I’m not sure why you’re saying you don’t. If you had said “Flash 8” you would be referring to the latest version.

I simply replied because one cannot use Flash MX to build Flash Video.
