Flash Image Rotator

Hi

I had the Flash image rotator working on this site…
http://trcs.nsw.edu.au
…for quite a while. Then it stopped working and only shows a black panel. I have checked the code and from what I can see it is ok. I have the swf file and playlist etc…? Any ideas?

Actually, it seems to be working just fine for me (I just checked it several times). Did you do something to fix it?

Hmmm no. I just get a black panel. My sons PC shows it after I asked him to check. He uses Firefox I use IE?

Wierd…

BTW my drop-down menu is a little screwed in FireFox?

Does Flash work on any other sites when you use Firefox? It could very well be that there’s a plugin issue with Firefox. Have you updated Firefox of the Flash plugin lately?

I get a black window in IE7 and the correct images in FF2.
So it looks like it must be a problem with later versions of IE7.
Probably something that Microsoft put in to ‘protect’ us.

Try swapping out the DTD (keeping your old one safe) with:-

See what that does.

Hmm…yeah I get a black box as well. My thought is the xml file is being blocked for some reason. Every once in a great while I see an icon in the upper left corner of the box flash. So I am assuming it is trying to load the image and can not find it.

Works fine for me on the Mac:
Safari
Opera
Firefox 3 beta
OmniWeb

I think you could be right.

I took a working version and entered a non-existent image. The result was the black screen in IE although in Firefox the images that did exist were actually shown until the non-existent image was reached in the list.

Maybe Grandstand has removed an image in the folder and forgotten to update the playlist/xml file.

Or somebody stole it!! :open_mouth:

Mind you it does say this about black screens in the wiki,
NOTE: If you find that your Image Rotator is showing you a black screen with that spinning
progress icon, chances are pretty good that it can’t actually find your images. Try using the full URL
for the images between those tags in your playlist.xml file.
There is new javascript at
https://media.dreamhost.com/

I think it makes IE actually use instead of which prevents the “Click to activate” pain.

Hello everyone, thx for the ideas and input. Yes the images are still there, xml etc…

I’m going to have a look in a while and try the full URL thing for a start.

Cheers

Since Javascript and PHP rotate flash, these will work for
flash
