First time i'm moving & site and

#1

So I read the forum about how to test a site before mtransferring the dns, but i found it easier to just create a subdomain, then upload my web files to that

I’ve done that here:
http://www.testingasite.dreamhosters.com/

however my top and bottom header & footer areas don’t show - which i THINK have to do with server side includes, but I’m not sure, and i don’t know how that works. I didnt build this site i just maintain it

the site should look as it does here:
www.online personaltraining-nyc.com

what do I need to do to get the headers & footers working?

i think it might have to do with htaccess but i dont know what that is, or how to configure it…

sorry if this is obvious somewhere, but this is the first time i’m moving & learning to host a site myself…and i’m not quite even sure what to search for ::eesh::

From you’ve described, it doesn’t appear to an issue with .htaccess.

If the site uses includes, then most likely it’s due to the the different path to the includes (they changed when you moved to DH). If you can pinpoint where in the code the files are called, you can manually change the path to the files.

i’m not quite sure where to look for the code all the links/urls are /something.html

instead of exact full urls

You need to tell apache to parse the html files by putting this directive into a .htaccess file:

AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .html

You’ve also got some php in the pages so you’ll want to add this as well:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html

do i just make a txt file named .htaccess? cuz i cant find one anywhere on the server…

i looked at the help/wiki and it doesnt explain how to do anything with the options that are presented when you look in the control panel under htaccess/webdav -

AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .html
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html

and I still don’t have my headers and footers :frowning:

i’m lizzost in the sauce.

at least i get everything but the headers & footers with nothing in the htaccess file.

i see a js directory, maybe the headers/footers are related to that?
is there something i can add to the htaccess to try whateri s in the js folder?
