Error Establishing a database connectoin

#1

I got this error while trying to log onto my wordpress site. I have no idea what or how I need to verify this??? Any help would be appreciated!

Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql.thatswhatchesaid.net. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
•Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
•Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
•Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Go to the DreamHost Panel and click on MySQL Databases. You’ll see the valid hostnames, and farther down your database name and the user for the database. If you click on the database user, it’ll show you their password. Those are all the bits of information you’ll need for your wp-config file.

Thanks Scott.

Don’t laugh…but how do I get to my wp-config file? I did the one click install and everything was good until tonight!

Thanks!

I hope you did the Custom install. If it’s the Easy Install, you’ll have to submit a Support Ticket.

For the custom install, go to the DreamHost panel for Manage Domains. Click WebFTP for your domain and log into your server. You should see your example.com folder, so go into that. You’ll get a file listing that includes wp-config.php. There should be some sort of Edit link next to it, so click on that and edit the file. It’s really short, so you should easily find the database info.
