Error Establishing a Database Connection

#1

Hello, I’m new to DreamHost and the forums, so thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions. I am moving my wordpress.com site over to wordpress.org and I think I have taken all the necessary steps to set up my new site, pointsforgood.org. I have followed the detailed instructions laid out at Wordpress but I’m stuck here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Step_5:_Run_the_Install_Script
I have used FileZilla to load all of my wordpress files onto my site but when I go to http://pointsforgood.org/wp-admin/install.php I get the following error message:

“Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql.pointsforgood.org. This could mean your host’s database server is down.”

I’m pretty new to this stuff and I am just totally confused at how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again.

there are 4 values that must be set correctly in the file wp-config. Normally they are the first 4 values

// ** MySQL settings - You can get this info from your web host ** //
/** The name of the database for WordPress */
define('DB_NAME', 'YOURDATABASENAME');

/** MySQL database username */
define('DB_USER', 'YOURDATABASEUSER');

/** MySQL database password */
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'YOURDATABASEPASSWORD');

/** MySQL hostname */
define('DB_HOST', 'mysql.pointsforgood.org');

the first 3 you can determine from this page https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=goodies.mysql& in the panel. (click the username on that page for password information).

the 4th value (hostname) appears to be set correctly as mysql.pointsforgood.org
