Email users and domain name

#1

I’m not sure I know exactly how to handle creating new email accounts.

I am setting up a website and email for a client.
Currently, we just have our defaulturl.dreamhosters.com, but we’ll be switching to www.mywebsite.com

Is there anything I need to know about creating email accounts? I want to make sure that name@defaulturl.dreamhosters.com will have no problems when I switch domain names. Will these created accounts automatically point to name@mywebsite.com?

It’s the opposite. E-mail addresses point to the mailbox. With DreamHost, each mailbox has a primary address. You can add aliases to forward to the primary address. So one can either change the primary address or setup an alias. I would setup a second mailbox whose primary address is that of the your domain, and once mail to that address can be sent and recieved, change the primary address of the first mailbox, and setup the subdomain address to forward to the primary address. This is not done automatically.
