Does anyone know the maximum size an email can be?

That depends on your mail provider. Gmail limits the total email to 25mb, Hotmail to about 10mb, and I believe DreamHost’s mail size limit is 30mb-35mb.

What natureofeden said – also, sending emails larger than one or two megabytes is generally considered antisocial (because they can take a long time to download, and will quickly fill up small mailboxes). If you’re trying to send a large file, it’s typically preferable to put it on a web site or something!
