Drupal, clean URLs, mod_rewrite

#1

I successfully, manually installed Drupal 6.6. Everything’s working fine except for the Clean URLs. When I go to enable Clean URLs the Drupal radio buttons are disabled and the page shows an error message: “Your system configuration does not currently support this feature.”

The Drupal documentation says that Clean URLs requires apache mod_rewrite. I thought that mod_rewrite was installed by default on all shared plans.

Any suggestions?

(If it’s any help, I wasn’t able to update .htaccess with Drupal’s version.)

Could you expand on that a bit?

I figured it out. I couldn’t upload “.htaccess”. So, all within Filezilla, I renamed the file to “copy.htaccess”, uploaded and renamed renamed back to “.htaccess”.

Uploading Drupal’s version of .htaccess (the one that ships with Drupal) fixed my Clean URL problems.
