Dream Hosts payment policy, etc

I just recently reviewed the payment plan. The “9.95/mo” on the main page is very misleading. It looks very much like you’re getting 30-60 meg of space, etc… for that price but when you delve further into it you find that that’s only if you prepay.

I want a site created for my caricature business. 30 meg isn’t a huge amount of space although probably sufficient for minimal small graphics (in the right format.) what I don’t understand is the 2gig bandwith 15/g after? Exactly how many people have to visit the site to create 2 gig of bandwith?

Thanks for your help. Your site looks good for my webhosting needs but need clarification on these issues.

Hi Scott,

Anywhere we mention our $9.95/month option, we mention (or should mention) that it is ‘as low as…’ that amount. We don’t want to mislead anyone, but we also want to call attention to the fact that you can get a great price if you pre-pay. If there’s anywhere in our marketing where that’s overtly misleading, let me know and I’ll send it to the marketing team.

As for the 30-60 meg thing, for most people 30 megs is probably okay. I’m not sure how many caricatures you have, but if they are numerous or highly detailed graphics they can take up a lot of space. The beauty of our plans is that you can upgrade to a better plan, or downgrade to a lower plan, without any penalty. Your current total is simply applied to the new plan (with you paying the balance, if any).

As for bandwidth, currently less than a few percent of our hosted sites ever exceed their given bandwidth constraints. However, if your caricatures are extremely popular, it may be worth it to upgrade to a higher plan. As a general rule it’s MUCH cheaper for you to go to a higher plan rather than pay extra per GB in bandwidth (the next plan up, Sweet Dreams, gives you 5 GB of bandwidth for only about 10 bucks more).

Also, the way you structure your site can help or hamper bandwidth usage. Re-using the same navigational graphics for multiple pages means they are cached, and don’t have to be re-downloaded again.

Hope this helps - if you have any other questions, please drop back by or send a message to sales…
