Hello, registered a domain name here at dreamhost. Now I want to redirect it to the IP of one of my servers.
Tried the redirect function of the ‘Manage Domains’, which does redirect, but with ‘http://111.222.333.444/’ rather than ‘http://www.mydomain.com/’.
Any ideas?
I think you want to host your domain name in your local machine. You can still use your registered domain. To achieve that, you can modify your A record via DH panel --> Domains --> Manage Domains --> DNS. Add an A record there and point it to your IP address.
You must have a hosting plan to have the DNS access.

Thanks Patrick, I did try that, but I’m not sure that it works. What happens when a site has 2 A records?
As you would know the DreamHost DNS entries are non-editable, therefore all I can do is add an additional A record. Does this one over-ride the previous?

Might have had to wait for it to propagate as it now works just fine.
Yes, you’ll need to give some time to any DNS changes.
